Russian forces launched a widespread drone and missile attack across Ukraine overnight, resulting in at least nine deaths and 145 injuries, according to local authorities. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia deployed 161 attack drones and one cruise missile, of which Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down or suppress 138.
In Kyiv, jet-powered drones struck civilian targets, including a gas station and a residential building, injuring eight people. The attacks continued as Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski arrived in the Ukrainian capital. A woman was also killed in a drone strike in Kyiv Oblast's Vyshhorod district.
Elsewhere, a strike on a shopping center in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, caused a mass-casualty incident, killing at least five people and injuring 67. In Donetsk Oblast, one resident of Kramatorsk was killed and 29 others injured. In Odesa, a warehouse containing humanitarian aid was damaged, and two people were injured. In Sumy Oblast, 12 people, including four children, were injured by glide-bomb strikes.
During the attacks on Odesa, Romania scrambled F-16 fighter jets to monitor potential threats near its border, though no airspace violations were ultimately recorded. Ukraine has stated that its drone strikes on Russia are part of a campaign to "bring the war home" and increase the conflict's cost for Moscow.
