Trump's Trade Chief Invited to Ireland for EU Talks

The invitation arrives at a time of heightened U.S. pressure on the European Union's regulatory framework. Washington is also awaiting the outcome of a U.S. investigation into excess manufacturing capacity, which could potentially create friction with a transatlantic trade agreement established last year.

This would mark Greer's second attendance at an EU ministers' meeting. In the previous year, Greer, alongside U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, traveled to Brussels to advocate for the EU to relax its regulations concerning technology.

The U.S. administration, following a year-old tariff truce that ended a trade war, is intensifying its focus on the EU's regulatory landscape. President Trump has previously threatened investigations into Brussels' digital regulations, particularly after the EU Commission fined Google for violating the Digital Markets Act. More recently, Trump's envoy to Brussels, Andrew Puzder, publicly criticized the EU's climate and sustainability rules.
