York was intercepted by officers near the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, Ohio, when he arrived for the arranged meeting. He was taken into custody after law enforcement found he possessed the cell phone used to set up the encounter, leading to the "possessing criminal tools" charge.
While initially charged with engaging in prostitution, the more serious charge was downgraded to disorderly conduct as part of a plea deal. York pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. He was sentenced to one day in jail, credited with time served, and fined $1,150.
