San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has been jailed in Ohio after pleading no contest to charges of soliciting prostitution and possessing criminal tools. The 45-year-old, who is also a co-owner of Leeds United and Rangers, was sentenced to one day in jail for each offense, to be served concurrently, and was given credit for time already served.
Court records indicate that York responded to an advertisement on a prostitution website placed by undercover officers from a Human Trafficking Task Force. Documents suggest he arranged to have sexual activity with a woman in exchange for $140. Police stated that York used an alias and contacted an undercover officer three times before his arrest.
In a plea deal, the original charges were reduced to disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, which is thought to refer to the phone used to reply to the advertisement. York was fined $150 for disorderly conduct and $1,000 for possessing criminal tools, totaling $1,150. An expungement request was filed and denied on the same day as his plea.
The NFL has stated it is aware of the matter and will review it under the personal conduct policy. The 49ers organization issued a statement saying, "As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time."
