Russia struck a factory belonging to U.S. multinational food company Mondelez International in Sumy Oblast on August 23, 2026, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Two Russian drones hit the facility located in the city of Trostianets, damaging the premises and injuring several employees. No fatalities were reported.
Sybiha stated on X that Russia had once again struck a civilian facility belonging to the "world-renowned American multinational corporation." Mondelez International is known for brands such as Oreo, Cadbury, Ritz, and Toblerone. The foreign minister characterized the attack as part of a pattern of Russian strikes against business endeavors in Ukraine, calling them a "direct blow to American economic interests in Europe."
Sybiha urged for increased military support for Ukraine, specifically additional air defense capabilities. He also advocated for the passage of the Sanctioning Russia Act to enhance economic pressure on Russia. The city of Sumy is situated approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the Russian border and the region experiences frequent assaults from nearby Russian forces, including artillery, drone, and guided bomb strikes.
