Russian attacks across Ukraine over the past day resulted in at least 10 fatalities and 53 injuries, with strikes targeting port infrastructure, civilian sites, and residential areas. In Odesa Oblast, a commercial cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was hit, killing its Ukrainian captain and causing a fire. Warehouses storing essential goods were also attacked.
Russian forces deployed 161 Shahed-type, Gebera, Parodiya, and Banderol drones, of which Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted or suppressed 119. Strikes were recorded in 18 locations, with debris from downed drones falling in eight areas.
In eastern Donetsk Oblast, four people were killed and 10 injured. Southern Kherson Oblast reported two deaths and eight injuries. Northeastern Kharkiv Oblast saw one fatality and 13 injuries. In Kyiv Oblast, 18 facilities were damaged and three people were injured, while in the capital city of Kyiv, one person was killed and at least seven injured by drone strikes that damaged warehouses and gas stations.
Further casualties were reported in southeastern Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where two people were injured in an attack on a shopping mall and one person was killed when his house was damaged. Seven people were injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, and two in Zhytomyr Oblast. In Sumy, at least one person was injured in an attack on civilian infrastructure.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on September 22 that Russia is preparing for a new large-scale strike against Ukraine, based on intelligence information. His warning came after a meeting about security and air defense support with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
