Meta announced on Tuesday that businesses can now use AI agents to set up and manage their WhatsApp Business messaging. Previously, this process required navigating multiple tools and services, including the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, and the API reference. With the introduction of the WhatsApp Business Tools MCP, companies can now interact with their preferred AI coding agent, such as Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT, through chat to describe their needs for setting up WhatsApp Business messaging.
The new MCP server expands Meta's existing offerings, which already include MCP servers for managing ads and monitoring app configurations. The AI agent will automate tasks like creating a WhatsApp Business account, verifying phone numbers, registering for Cloud API access, and ensuring compliance with Terms of Service. Businesses can also leverage these agents to create, edit, test, and monitor messaging templates. Additionally, Meta’s other MCP server, Meta Social Technologies MCP, can be utilized for discovering API endpoints and troubleshooting errors during the setup and configuration phases.
