International Gas Union summit on sustainable future to convene in Hong Kong

Leaders from major global energy corporations, regional government officials, experts, and representatives from international organizations will gather in Hong Kong. Their discussions will focus on critical issues such as global energy security, the evolution towards a green and low-emission economy, and the roadmap for achieving achievable, just, and sustainable development.

The IGU, described as the world's most influential and authoritative international non-profit membership organization for the global gas industry, has members accounting for over 90% of the global gas market. The choice of Hong Kong as the host city, with Towngas as the host organization, underscores Hong Kong's status as an international metropolis and a green finance hub, as well as Towngas's contributions to the energy transition and the IGU.

Amidst significant global shifts, including the restructuring of supply chains and the increasing focus on low-emission energy choices, the future development of the global gas industry, particularly natural gas, is drawing considerable attention. Over the four-day series of meetings, IGU Council members from 70 countries will delve into topics such as energy governance and industry development strategies.

The joint IGU-Towngas Summit, scheduled for October 29, 2026, will operate under the theme "Empowering a Sustainable Future." It will feature keynote speeches from officials of the HKSAR Government and global industry leaders. Additionally, roundtable discussions will involve representatives and experts from various energy-related sectors to share insights and recommendations on regional energy development, green finance, and the challenges and prospects for the global and regional natural gas industry.

Andrea Stegher, President of IGU, expressed enthusiasm for the summit, emphasizing the IGU's commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration to accelerate the achievement of a safe, affordable, equitable, just, and sustainable energy future. He also highlighted the expected invaluable insights from the summit to advance the role of gas for human progress and global growth.

Peter Wong Wai-yee, Managing Director of Towngas, stated that the company is honored to host the event and is committed to creating a sustainable, green energy world, actively promoting a green, low-carbon transition in response to global climate change challenges. He views the summit as a platform for the global industry to build networks, share experiences, and foster dialogue to advance the green energy transition through innovation and technology.
