According to Reuters, on Thursday, eight ships exited the Strait while one entered. Among the exiting vessels were a ballast very large gas carrier and a laden very large crude carrier (VLCC), along with Panamax, Supramax, short-range, and medium-range tankers. A single dry bulk handymax carrier entered the strait.
Earlier data indicated that commodity vessel transits through the chokepoint fell to single digits per day over the weekend. Before the Iran war began on February 28, the Strait typically handled about 125 large commercial vessels daily, accounting for 20% of the world's daily crude oil and liquefied natural gas supply. Regional attacks and a Saudi pipeline shutdown have contributed to keeping flows below normal.
