Fashion startup Atorie announced on Thursday that it has raised $9.5 million in a seed funding round, with participation from investors including a16z Speedrun, Night Capital, and Lightspeed Ventures’ Jeremy Liew. The company aims to provide consumers with luxury goods, such as handbags and clothing, made from the same materials and factories as high-end brands, but at significantly lower prices.
Atorie's model addresses a growing consumer trend towards more affordable alternatives to luxury items, particularly among younger demographics who are increasingly wary of post-pandemic price hikes in the luxury sector. Co-founder Redouane Ramdani emphasizes that Atorie's products are not simply dupes but are crafted with the same materials and craftsmanship as luxury goods, sourced from factories that increasingly have their own design and product-development capabilities.
Ramdani, who previously founded the creator platform Snipfeed, drew inspiration from his family's background in luxury manufacturing. He noted a shift in the industry where factories are now capable of developing their own products and adapting to smaller batch production, reducing overproduction risks for brands and diversifying factory revenue streams. AI plays a crucial role in this process, helping factories identify popular products, manage inventory, and predict material shortages.
Atorie leverages AI to analyze fashion trends, test product aesthetics, estimate consumer demand, and manage supply chains. On the consumer side, the Atorie website features an AI agent that can help build outfits and personalize shopping suggestions. The company is already observing sales referrals from platforms like ChatGPT and Claude. Atorie's goal is to serve as a high-quality, affordable alternative to fast-fashion brands like Zara, with projected sales exceeding $55 million this year, up from $5 million last year. The new funding will support logistics, further AI tool development, and production, with plans to launch an in-house line and collaborate with creators and influencers.
