Empirik, a startup incubated by Sequoia Capital, has officially launched as an independent company after securing $21 million in seed funding. The AI-powered platform is designed to predict and prevent technology infrastructure outages before they occur by analyzing system changes and their potential ripple effects.
Founded by former Sequoia IT leaders Avon Puri and Sudheer Dhurjati, Empirik aims to shift infrastructure management from reactive incident response to proactive prediction. The company was incubated by Sequoia in 2023, and Kartik Chandrayana, formerly of Quantum Metric and Salesforce, was brought on as CEO earlier this year.
Sequoia partner Bogomil Balkansky highlighted that Empirik addresses a gap in existing observability tools by focusing on complex system dependencies. He described Empirik as an autonomous "traffic cop" for infrastructure changes, permitting low-risk updates, guiding larger ones, and flagging critical issues for human review. This allows DevOps and site reliability engineering teams to offload routine tasks and concentrate on more strategic priorities.
Since its soft launch, Empirik has already attracted customers, including major players like S&P Global and Guardant Health, alongside a large consumer packaged goods company. The company's ambition is to automate infrastructure engineering tasks, similar to how AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code have accelerated software development, according to CEO Kartik Chandrayana.
