Two summits between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in five months have resulted in shared language but no concrete progress on securing the Strait of Hormuz or resolving the conflict in Iran. Following their May meeting in Beijing, there was little indication of agreement on how to end the war. Xi's subsequent visit to Washington also failed to produce a breakthrough regarding Iran, although Xi expressed support for a return to the interim US-Iran agreement.
Last week, Trump rejected a truce proposal put forth by Iran. He also indicated that he was considering resuming US bombing of Iran in the aftermath of the midterm elections.
