Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, integrating significant AI-powered "Audio Intelligence" features aimed at enhancing daily recall and user awareness. The new smartwatches can "rewind" up to 15 seconds of conversations, presenting them as text snippets via the "Live Rewind" function, and can generate high-level notes and titles from daily discussions with "Siri Recap."
These AI capabilities do not involve storing audio recordings, according to Apple. Additionally, a new "Sound Recognition" feature is designed to alert users to important sounds like sirens and alarms, benefiting those with hearing impairments.
The new models also feature an upgraded health-sensing system. This includes a larger electrode surface area for more precise ECG readings and redesigned photodiodes for efficient light capture. More power-efficient green LEDs enable continuous heart rate measurements every five seconds, even during motion, a significant increase from previous models.
Further health innovations include "readiness scores" that analyze recent activity, vital signs, and sleep to indicate daily preparedness, and a "Health Age" feature that compares key health metrics against a user's actual age. The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399, with the Apple Watch Ultra 4 priced at $499.
