Materials scientist and chemist Antonio Facchetti has joined the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) as a chair professor in its newly established department of materials. Facchetti, who was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering last year for his contributions to the engineering of commercially viable electronic materials and devices, previously held a professorship at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States.
Facchetti's research interests include organic semiconductors and dielectrics for thin-film and electrochemical transistors, metal oxides, conducting polymers, molecular electronics, sensors, batteries, and photovoltaics. He co-founded Flexterra Corporation and holds over 150 patents, with a publication record of more than 600 research articles and 14 book chapters. He has been recognized as a highly cited scientist and received numerous awards for his work.
Facchetti expressed his honor and excitement to join HKUST, citing its vibrant research culture and pursuit of innovation as an ideal platform for advancing materials research.
