AirAsia co-founder Tony Fernandes has ignited a social media debate by criticizing Singapore Airlines' (SIA) in-flight meals, asserting that his airline's offerings are superior. Fernandes posted on Thursday that while his flight with SIA had great service and internet, the food was "poor" and "Santan is far far better." He added that the crew admitted this, though he also noted that SIA was "not far off" in overall quality.
This criticism comes as Singapore Airlines is generally known for its high standards of service, though its in-flight catering has sometimes drawn mixed reviews. One passenger, writing on Facebook on Wednesday, September 2, described a meal on an SIA flight from London Heathrow to Singapore as "bland" and "stodgy." The passenger, seated in Economy class, had to settle for the fish option after the beef had run out, and found the subsequent breakfast even worse, calling it "dry, sauceless, overly salty beef noodles."
