Malaysia's Islamist party PAS sets sights on federal power ahead of next general election

Malaysia's Islamist party PAS says it is ready to form the next federal government. At its 72nd annual congress, party leaders laid out priorities for the next general election, while also setting out its vision for governing the country. PAS currently holds the most seats of any single party in parliament. Party president Abdul Hadi Awang told members PAS already has a roadmap for governing — one that is rooted in Islamic principles, including religious observance, social welfare and preventing wrongdoing.
