AI-generated films are becoming realistic enough to make viewers look twice. As the technology makes filmmaking faster, cheaper and more accessible, more local creators are experimenting with what it can do. But what does that mean for human creativity and jobs? Are AI films just a novelty or are they here to stay? Of 128,000 short dramas released in China this year, 95% of them were AI-generated. Globally, market research estimates the industry to be valued at US$571 million in 2025 and it is projected to grow to US$3 billion by 2032. Gladys Wee reports.
