The U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) recently conducted two workshops in Bali, Indonesia, focused on enhancing aquaculture feed formulation capabilities across Asia. The events, held in August, included the 4th Annual Bangladesh Aquaculture Feed Formulation Workshop and the 12th Annual Southeast Asia Aquaculture Feed Formulation Workshop. These workshops brought together commercial aquafeed formulators, nutritionists, and industry experts from Bangladesh and seven Southeast Asian markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The program featured technical presentations, hands-on training, and commercial formulation exercises aimed at developing high-quality, nutritionally targeted aquafeeds. Discussions emphasized ingredient selection, supply reliability, sustainability, and the role of U.S. Soy as a consistent and sustainable ingredient. U.S. soybean farmers Brent Gatton and Thomas Frisch also participated, sharing insights on U.S. soybean production and sustainability practices. Asia accounts for over 90% of global aquaculture production, with countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Indonesia being major producers. For the 2025/26 marketing year, U.S. soybean exports to Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Vietnam reached 4.65 million metric tons, with soybean meal exports totaling 1 million metric tons to date.
