U.S. private sector employment saw a moderate increase in August, with 38,000 jobs added according to the ADP National Employment Report. This figure fell short of economists' expectations and represented a slowdown from the revised 46,000 jobs added in July.
The ADP report, developed in conjunction with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, is often seen as a precursor to the more closely watched employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Historically, the ADP report has not been a precise predictor of the BLS's private payrolls estimate.
Earlier data from the BLS indicated that in July, there were 1.05 open jobs for every unemployed person, suggesting stable labor market conditions. Economists surveyed by Reuters anticipate that the upcoming BLS report will show nonfarm payrolls rebounding by 56,000 jobs in August, with the unemployment rate holding steady at 4.1%.
