Ukraine recaptures territory in Donetsk, claims 2,000 Russian losses

Ukrainian forces have recaptured 51 square kilometers of territory in the north of the Donetsk region as part of an operation dubbed "Vivaldi," according to Brigadier-General Andrii Biletskyi, who commands the 3rd Army Corps. This latest advance brings the total territory reclaimed by the operation to 176 square kilometers and has resulted in the liberation of three more villages, with Ukrainian control restored over two additional villages. Biletskyi stated that the offensive also inflicted over 2,000 Russian losses and led to the capture of more than 250 Russian soldiers. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) described the operation as having achieved the "operationally-significant" goal of disrupting Moscow's efforts to encircle Ukrainian cities in the eastern Donbas region. Russia has been pressing its assault on key eastern strongholds, with forces bearing down on cities like Kostiantynivka. Ukraine currently holds about 20% of the Donetsk region, which Russia aims to fully control. These reported gains in Donetsk follow Ukraine's earlier counteroffensive in the southeast, where it reclaimed over 700 square kilometers.
