Thieves have stolen more than 70,000 pints of Guinness, valued at approximately £115,000, from a depot in Cheshire. The incident occurred on Monday evening at the Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane in Runcorn.
According to Cheshire Police, two HGV trailers were driven into the depot and attached to trailers already containing barrels of Guinness. The first lorry entered the Aston Lane area around 7:45 PM, connected to a trailer, and left the site by 7:55 PM heading towards the Mersey Gateway bridge. A second lorry arrived at 9:12 PM, attached to another trailer of Guinness, and departed at 9:30 PM towards Rainhill and Watkinson Way.
Approximately 800 barrels, containing around 70,400 pints of the stout, were taken. These barrels were intended for delivery to pubs. Diageo, the owner of Guinness, operates a packaging warehouse at the industrial estate.
Police estimate the total value of the stolen items, including the two white tri-axle curtain-side trailers branded with GXO logistics company logos, to be around £205,000. The trailers have unique ID numbers DL736 and DL542 on their rear doors. Both HGVs are believed to have been driven by men; the first described as white with a short dark beard and wearing a beanie, and the second believed to be wearing a cap.
Detective Sergeant McClatchy stated that inquiries are underway to identify those responsible and recover all stolen items. Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly any drivers with dashcam footage from the Aston Lane area around the times of the incidents, to come forward.
