Two men, aged 21 and 43, from Surrey have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a significant illegal waste dump discovered in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. The arrests bring the total number of individuals apprehended in connection with the site to six. The Environment Agency (EA) confirmed the arrests, stating that the dumping was 'abhorrent' and disregarded the local community.
The investigation is being led by the EA, with support from Surrey Police and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit. The two men have been released on conditional bail pending further inquiries.
The site contained an estimated 22,704 tonnes of rubbish, stacked 10 metres high, which was cleared during a five-month operation costing an estimated £6 million. The site was first reported in July 2025, and the EA shut it down in October 2025 after discovering continued criminal activity. The agency made the exceptional decision to clear the waste due to the significant fire risk.
