Tanzania's ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party has nominated Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi as the new vice president candidate. The decision was made during an extraordinary meeting chaired by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Ndejembi's nomination comes after the resignation and subsequent expulsion of the incumbent Vice President, Emmanuel Nchimbi, who had served for 10 months. Nchimbi was expelled from the party for indiscipline, reportedly following controversial remarks he made urging Tanzanians to "fight for a new constitution." His resignation is effective at the end of next week.
