Ye Jianchun, the governor of China's Jiangsu province, is under investigation for "suspected serious violations of discipline and law," according to China's anti-graft watchdog. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announced the probe on a Thursday. This follows a similar investigation into Li Yunfeng, a former deputy governor of Jiangsu province, who was probed for suspected graft in May 2016. Li had spent nearly his entire career in Jiangsu and became deputy governor in 2011. The CCDI stated Li was suspected of "serious discipline breaches," a common euphemism for corruption. China has seen numerous senior officials investigated and jailed as part of a sweeping anti-corruption campaign initiated by President Xi Jinping, aimed at addressing corruption perceived as a threat to the Communist Party's hold on power.
