Lee shared a report from Korea Customs Service Commissioner Lee Jong-wook, who noted that despite an uncertain global trade environment, including rising protectionism and supply chain restructuring, South Korea's exports continue to show remarkable growth. The customs chief projected that annual exports could reach $1 trillion around early December, citing the performance of countries like the United States, China, and Germany which have already achieved this milestone.
Data from the government indicated significant growth in key export sectors. Semiconductor exports rose by 169.6 percent year-on-year during the first eight months of 2026. Other major products, including computer peripherals, petroleum products, wireless communication devices, and ships, also experienced substantial growth.
