Meta Platforms has hired Chirantan "CJ" Desai, the chief executive officer of MongoDB, to spearhead a new business unit aimed at bringing the social media giant's artificial intelligence tools to corporate customers. Desai will assume the newly created role of chief enterprise platform officer and report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The new Meta Enterprise Platform will offer businesses access to Meta's AI models, agents, and tools, including the recently launched Muse, Meta Business Agent, and coding tools. Muse, a personal AI agent designed for tasks like shopping and booking travel, has rapidly gained traction in app store rankings and has been compared by analysts to the launch of ChatGPT.
Desai's departure from MongoDB, where he had been CEO for less than a year, caused the company's shares to fall 18% in morning trading on Monday. MongoDB has appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim CEO while it searches for a permanent replacement. Prior to MongoDB, Desai held leadership roles at Cloudflare and ServiceNow.
