South Wales Police has announced that an 87-year-old man arrested in December 2025 in connection with the 1993 murders of Harry and Megan Tooze will face no further action. Detectives from the force's Major Crime Investigation Team are continuing a forensic review of the case, which began in 2023 on the 30th anniversary of the killings.
Harry Tooze, 64, and his wife Megan, 67, were found shot dead in the head in a cowshed at their Llanharry farm on July 26, 1993. Their bodies were discovered hidden under hay bales. A man was convicted of the murders in 1995 but was freed on appeal in 1996. A subsequent reinvestigation from 2001 did not lead to charges.
The current forensic review involves forensic scientist Dr. Angela Gallop examining retained exhibits with modern techniques. The 87-year-old man, who was 86 at the time of his arrest, has been released without charge, and police have stated he is no longer a person of interest. The force has not identified the man publicly.
Detective Superintendent Mark O’Shea appealed for anyone with information to come forward, stating that it is never too late to help achieve justice for the family. The next of kin of Harry and Megan Tooze are being supported and kept updated by the police.
