Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), a global merchant and processor of agricultural goods, has inaugurated a new grain storage facility in Multan, Pakistan. This marks the company's first owned industrial site in the country, adding approximately 40,000 metric tons of storage capacity in South Punjab. The investment is intended to bolster LDC's logistics and supply chain capabilities within Pakistan, a significant agricultural market and one of the world's largest producers and consumers of wheat.
Rubens Marques, LDC's Head of South and Southeast Asia, stated that Pakistan is an important market for grains and a key destination for the company in South Asia. He emphasized that strong agricultural supply chains are essential for growing populations and economies, and this investment strengthens LDC's presence in the domestic market and its ability to meet evolving customer needs.
Muhammad Danyal, LDC's Country Head for Pakistan, highlighted that Pakistan's agricultural base and growing grain demand create business opportunities, necessitating stronger logistics infrastructure. He added that improved storage and logistics enhance services for both suppliers and customers, support the development of Pakistan's grains sector, and contribute to local employment. LDC has been active in Pakistan since 2010, expanding its operations across various agricultural commodities including cotton, grains, oilseeds, pulses, rice, and sugar, and has established a significant position in the wheat market.
