The IRGC stated these actions were in retaliation for an earlier US attack on Larak Island that killed and wounded IRGC members and Iranian civilians.
Meanwhile, the US Central Command (Centcom) stated it targeted Iran because it posed an "imminent threat" in the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the US military eliminated the threat to protect civilian mariners and commercial shipping.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran is not seeking war but will "never sit still in the face of any aggression" and will "give a decisive response to the aggressors" if attacked. He added that instability in the region is not in any country's interest.
Separately, Donald Trump reiterated that Iran must never obtain a nuclear weapon, warning that such access would lead to the destruction of the region and potentially the US or Europe.
