Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker designed to bridge the gap between its more basic Fitbit Air and the feature-rich Pixel Watch 5. Priced at $180, the Edge offers a refined experience for users seeking advanced health tracking capabilities without the full cost of a smartwatch.
The device features a 1.34-inch OLED touch display with 46% more viewable area than the Charge 6, housed in a slender aluminum frame with IP68 water and dust protection. It runs on a simplified operating system, not a full version of Wear OS, allowing it to mirror phone notifications and track workouts. However, it lacks a microphone, speaker, and NFC for tap-to-pay, limiting responses to pre-defined quick replies and excluding Gemini interactions.
Key health features include on-device GPS for phone-free activity tracking, an ECG app, blood oxygen sensor, altimeter, optical heart rate sensor, and skin temperature sensor. Battery life is rated at up to seven days, but drops to approximately two days with the always-on display enabled. The Edge uses the same magnetic charging puck as the Fitbit Air.
Users receive three months of Google Health Premium, which unlocks AI features like the Health Coach chatbot, with a $10 monthly subscription thereafter. The tracker comes with a silicone Active Band and will be available in matte black, polished silver, satin pyrite, and champagne gold. Additional band options range from $40 to $150. The Fitbit Edge is available for preorder and will ship on October 27.
