Google DeepMind and Alphabet's cloud service, Google Cloud, announced on Wednesday that they will provide up to 200 European scientific researchers with direct access to their frontier AI models. The initiative also includes $3 million in compute credits.
The program aims to empower researchers to tackle complex challenges more rapidly, such as predicting extreme weather patterns and mapping molecular structures. The scientific tools that will be made available include AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve, and AlphaEarth Foundations.
This move aligns with broader efforts to foster AI innovation and application in Europe. Google DeepMind has also been deepening its collaboration with the UK government, focusing on using AI for scientific discovery, education, modernizing public services, and advancing national security. This includes plans for Google DeepMind's first automated research lab in the UK, set to open in 2026, which will focus on materials science research and be integrated with Gemini.
