The Friedkin Group (TFG), owner of Premier League club Everton, is considering selling a controlling stake in the team, less than two years after its acquisition. The American group, led by chairman Dan Friedkin, stated that with the club now on a stable financial footing and its new stadium nearing completion, the time is right to 'consider the next chapter.'
TFG completed its takeover of Everton in December 2024 for over £400 million. The group's statement emphasized its initial priorities of providing stability, investment, and ensuring the stadium's completion.
However, TFG's leadership has faced scrutiny, particularly during the recent transfer window. Fans expressed anger over the club's acceptance of a £40 million bid for midfielder Harrison Armstrong, which was later withdrawn, and the subsequent sale of Beto to Fiorentina. These decisions, coupled with a perceived cautious approach to the transfer market, have suggested limited ambition to some supporters.
Manager David Moyes revealed he has not met or spoken with Dan Friedkin since returning to the club in January 2025, fueling perceptions of absentee ownership. Friedkin leaves the day-to-day operations to his son-in-law, Rishi Majithia, who works with chief executive Angus Kinnear.
TFG stated that they will only engage with potential buyers who they believe will be the 'right stewards' to lead the club forward and will continue to support Everton's success on the pitch and in the community.
