Volkswagen has officially launched the ID. Tiguan, an all-new electric crossover that will replace the outgoing ID.4. The move signifies a strategic decision by the German automaker to merge the success of its best-selling Tiguan nameplate with its growing electric vehicle lineup.
The ID. Tiguan is built on an updated version of Volkswagen's MEB platform, now referred to as MEB+. It will be offered with two battery pack sizes: 58 kWh and 77 kWh. The smaller battery is paired with a 187 hp (140 kW) rear electric motor, while the 77 kWh battery can be configured as a 281 hp (210 kW) rear-wheel-drive or a 295 hp (220 kW) all-wheel-drive variant. Volkswagen estimates the ID. Tiguan's range to be up to 373 miles (600 km) based on the European WLTP test cycle.
Visually, the ID. Tiguan adopts Volkswagen's new 'Pure Positive' design language, aiming for a more premium appearance both inside and out. Notably, the interior has been redesigned to address customer feedback, featuring a return to physical controls for essential functions like climate control, window operation, and steering wheel buttons. It also includes a new 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, with an optional 12-inch passenger display available. A standout feature is the 10-inch digital instrument display, which offers selectable retro dial designs mimicking classic VW models such as the Mk1 Golf, Mk4 Golf, and first-generation Tiguan.
Pre-sales for the electric Tiguan are set to begin in Europe next week, with a starting price of €42,695 ($44,716) in Germany. Volkswagen has indicated that North American timing, specifications, and pricing will be shared at a later date, following the European launch.
