Key facts
- CXMT planned to ship customer samples of its first server-grade DRAM on the 4F² architecture by the end of 2026, per a summary of the plan.
- Micron Technology has chosen to bypass the 4F² architecture that CXMT is pursuing, the report said.
- CXMT is based in Hefei, Anhui, in eastern China, according to an attached company profile.
- The two companies' divergence reflects disagreement over how to pack more data onto silicon under cost and geopolitical constraints, the report said.
ChangXin Memory Technologies, known as CXMT, planned to send customers samples of its first server-grade dynamic random-access memory product built on the 4F² architecture by the end of 2026, according to a summary of the plan cited in the report. The Hefei-based company is pressing ahead with the design even though US rival Micron Technology has chosen to bypass it.
The divergence points to an industry split over how best to pack more data onto silicon while managing cost and geopolitical constraints, the report said. The report did not date the plan or say how many customers would receive samples.
An attached company profile described CXMT as an integrated design and manufacturing company founded in 2016 and based in Hefei, Anhui, in eastern China, making DRAM for mobile devices, PCs, game consoles and other consumer products. The profile carried no date and was not used as a source for the sampling plan.
