Barclays has appointed Mike Joo, formerly of Bank of America, as co-chief executive officer of its investment bank, joining Adeel Khan. This move, effective in early 2027 pending regulatory approval, aims to enhance dealmaking performance and reduce top-level costs within the division. Joo's extensive background includes leading global investment banking at BofA.
This leadership change at Barclays signifies a departure from the structure established in 2024, which had Khan overseeing the investment banking business alongside Stephen Dainton, Cathal Deasy, and Taylor Wright. Stephen Dainton has already announced his retirement.
Societe Generale has also seen significant personnel shifts. Bill Stenning has retired from his role as head of market infrastructure and UK public affairs, concluding a tenure that began in 2011 and involved active participation in regulatory and market structure discussions. Francisco Oliveira has departed as co-head of global markets, a position he held for two years after joining from BNP Paribas. Hatem Mustapha has now assumed the sole leadership of global markets. The bank's fixed income business has been under pressure, with equities contributing significantly more to global markets revenue.
