Apple has updated its iPad lineup, introducing new M4-powered iPad Air models in March 2026 and M5-powered iPad Pro models in October 2025. The company also continues to offer the standard iPad with an A16 chip and the iPad Mini with an A17 Pro chip, providing a range of options for consumers.
The latest iPad Air models, available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, feature Apple's M4 processor, which the company states delivers up to a 30% performance increase. These upgrades are intended to enhance performance in gaming, creative tasks, and AI-driven applications due to faster memory bandwidth. The new iPad Air also includes connectivity upgrades such as Apple's C1X modem for improved cellular performance and an N1 wireless chip supporting WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. The design and core features, including a Liquid Retina LED display, Touch ID, and 12MP cameras, remain consistent with previous generations. Both sizes support the Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Apple Pencil Pro. Storage options range from 128GB to 1TB. The 11-inch model now starts at $749, and the 13-inch model starts at $949, representing an increase from their original launch prices.
The high-end iPad Pro models, released in October 2025, are equipped with Apple's M5 processor. Apple claims the M5 chip offers up to a 3.5x boost in AI performance compared to the previous generation, along with improved graphical performance for 3D applications. These tablets are designed for power users engaged in demanding applications, advanced AI workflows, or high-end gaming. Enhancements in memory bandwidth and storage are expected to facilitate smoother multitasking and faster data read/write speeds.
