Key facts
- Blueprints AI uses AI to produce code-compliant and permit-ready architectural construction blueprints in minutes from a 2D sketch or PDF.
- The startup's first-generation software costs between $3,200 to $8,500 a month.
- The second-generation software will create blueprints for architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior design simultaneously.
- Architects spend about 80% of their time on drafting and 20% on design, a ratio Blueprints AI aims to flip.
- Licensed professionals still review and seal the documents before permit submission.
Blueprints AI, a startup founded by Al Drams and Coco Cao, is leveraging generative AI to automate the creation of architectural construction blueprints. The company's software aims to significantly reduce the time architects spend on repetitive drafting tasks, allowing them to focus more on design.
Drams, who has a background in architecture and construction, was inspired by the advancements in large language models (LLMs) following the release of OpenAI's ChatGPT in November 2022. He officially incorporated Blueprints AI in Santa Monica in 2025 with Cao, who manages sales and go-to-market strategy.
The startup will showcase a more advanced second-generation version of its software at TechCrunch Disrupt this week. This new version can generate blueprints for all aspects of a building—including architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior design—simultaneously from a description or sketch. Importantly, changes made to one part of the design automatically update the entire project and are checked against local building codes.
Early customers are already using the second-generation software, which will be publicly available this week. Blueprints AI is also developing a third version that will incorporate structural analysis and electrical panel design. The company emphasizes that its technology assists, rather than replaces, licensed architects, who will continue to review and approve the final documents.
