AGNT, formerly eXp World Holdings, has integrated its acquisition of real estate franchisor NextHome, with company leaders reporting a highly successful five-month period. AGNT CEO Leo Pareja emphasized that the acquisition was driven by a desire to grow NextHome as a platform, rather than seeking synergies with existing operations.
"We bought a platform that we wanted to grow versus having the synergy conversation that every other company is having," Pareja said. He added that the company aims to potentially quadruple NextHome's size in the next few years and is thrilled to work alongside NextHome's leadership.
NextHome's president of strategy, Keith Robinson, echoed this sentiment, stating that the integration has surpassed all hopes and expectations. He highlighted that the company's previous limitations have been resolved with the support of AGNT's larger and stronger team, resulting in wins across the board.
Leaders attribute the smooth integration to the surprising similarities between the two firms, despite their different operational models. Pareja noted shared characteristics such as fully remote leadership, common technology providers like SkySlope and BoldTrail, the use of Regus office spaces, and aligned philosophies on key real estate issues like private listings and transparency.
Pareja explained that AGNT's acquisition of NextHome provides a complementary, non-competitive option to its cloud-based brokerage model. This strategy aims to capture a larger portion of the real estate market, as he estimates that 90% of agents may not fit AGNT's primary model. He cited data showing minimal agent crossover between eXp and NextHome prior to the acquisition, indicating distinct target audiences. The acquisition of a franchise model by a cloud-based brokerage is seen as a strategic move to offer agents more choice in a consolidating industry.
Robinson added that in the current chaotic real estate market, a choice-based model will ultimately prevail over a static one. He believes AGNT is building optionality for agents, allowing them to choose the "flavor" that best suits their business and financial future.
Looking ahead, Pareja and Robinson see significant opportunities for NextHome's growth, particularly as consolidation continues in the industry. They anticipate that some franchisees may not align with new ownership groups, creating an opening for AGNT's model. Despite rising mortgage rates and financial uncertainty, they remain optimistic about 2027, projecting a disproportionate share of transactions due to their focus on productive agents and an asset-light model.
