TechCrunch announced that Grant Lee, CEO and co-founder of Gamma, Elia Wallen, founder and CEO of Engine, and Crystal Huang, general partner at GV (Google Ventures), will participate in a panel discussion at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. The session, titled "The Zero-to-1K Playbook: How to Get Your First 1,000 Customers Without a Marketing Budget," aims to provide guidance for early-stage founders on acquiring their initial customer base.
The panelists are expected to share strategies such as community building, product-led growth, founder-led sales, strategic outbound efforts, and leveraging word-of-mouth. They will address the challenges faced by startups with limited marketing budgets, no established brand, or nascent sales teams.
Grant Lee's experience includes co-founding Gamma, an AI-powered visual communication platform that TechCrunch reported in March 2026 was approaching 100 million users after achieving $100 million in annual recurring revenue in 2025. Prior to Gamma, Lee held roles at ClearBrain and Optimizely.
Elia Wallen founded Travelers Haven in 2008 and bootstrapped it into a large corporate housing company before raising outside capital for Engine. Engine has since served over 30,000 businesses and one million travelers and recently acquired Options Travel.
Crystal Huang, a general partner at GV, focuses on SaaS, infrastructure, and AI, with an interest in product- and developer-led adoption. She will offer an investor's perspective on how early-stage companies build momentum and attract customers before having the resources of larger businesses. Huang will also serve as a judge for the Startup Battlefield 200 at Disrupt.
