Singapore strengthens haze laws, passing amendments to Transboundary Haze Pollution Act

CNA5 hours ago1:30

Singapore's parliament passed amendments to the country's transboundary haze law on Wednesday (Nov 4), raising the maximum fine for the main offence tenfold to S$20 million. The changes give authorities stronger powers to investigate and act against companies linked to haze pollution. They also allow restrictions on business dealings with errant entities and action before haze reaches Singapore. In her closing speech, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act is "not a silver bullet", stating that "even with the expanded powers, we can expect challenges ahead of us in exercising these powers". #sgnews #haze Subscribe to our channel here: https://cna.asia/youtubesub Visit our website: https://cna.asia Download our app: https://cna.asia/app Get our editors' picks of stories via chat apps: Telegram: https://cna.asia/telegram WhatsApp: https://cna.asia/whatsapp Follow us on these platforms: https://www.facebook.com/channelnewsasia https://www.instagram.com/channelnewsasia https://www.tiktok.com/@channelnewsasia
