Singapore’s Gan Ching Hwee clinches Asian Games silver in 400m freestyle

Singaporean swimmer Gan Ching Hwee clinched another silver at the Asian Games on Tuesday (Sep 22), setting a new national record in the 400m freestyle. At the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Gan clocked 4:06.81, smashing her previous national mark of 4:09.34 set at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games earlier this year. China’s Li Bingjie took gold in 4:02.71, while Japan’s Ichika Kajimoto claimed bronze in 4:07.45. Earlier in the Games, the 23-year-old took her first Asiad medal, a silver in the 1,500m freestyle, rewriting her previous national mark. Gan's time of 8:29.56 for the first 800m of the race also broke the national record for the 800m freestyle.
