The inaugural Yonhap Hanam International Trail Running Festival is set to launch in South Korea in December, co-hosted by Yonhap News Agency, the country's primary newswire. The event will take place on December 12-13 in Hanam, a city located about 20 kilometers east of Seoul.
The organizing committee officially commenced preparations following a launch ceremony held on September 15, 2026, at Korea National Sport University. South Korean Olympic marathon champion Hwang Young-jo was responsible for designing the event's trail running courses, which will include options of 15 km and 28 km. These routes will begin at the Misa Boat Race Park, traverse riverside paths, and ascend Mount Geomdan, leading towards the Namhan Mountain Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrating its 400th anniversary this year.
For less experienced runners and families, two shorter courses of 5 km and 10 km have been created around the Misa Boat Race Park. The organizing committee plans to launch an official website soon to begin accepting participant applications. The festival is a collaborative effort between Yonhap News Agency, Korea National Sport University, and the Hanam city government, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
