US embassy staffer's removal from UK 'unforgivable', says Harry Dunn's mother

The individual in question, who worked at the US embassy in Nine Elms, south west London, was reportedly flown back to the United States on a commercial flight in August. Though not a diplomat, the staffer reportedly benefited from diplomatic protection.

Charles, who campaigned for Sacoolas to face justice in the UK, expressed her disgust and hoped the public would again speak up to ensure the individual is extradited to face justice in Britain. Sacoolas had admitted causing death by careless driving in December 2022 and received a suspended prison sentence.

Radd Seiger, an adviser and spokesperson for the Dunn family, described the reports as "profoundly disturbing" and suggested that the US had lawful ways to bring the individual to justice within the United States without resorting to removing them from the UK. The US Embassy previously confirmed the staff member's reassignment to the US, stating that all personnel are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are continuing to liaise with US authorities on the matter.
