The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Sept. 13 that Russia has lost approximately 1,506,900 troops since the full-scale invasion began on Feb. 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,520 casualties suffered by Russian forces over the preceding day. The report also detailed significant losses in military equipment, including 12,344 tanks and 25,330 armored combat vehicles. Additionally, Russia has lost 148,259 vehicles and fuel tanks, 49,678 artillery systems, 2,120 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,635 air defense systems, 442 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,603 unmanned ground systems, 514,317 aerial drones, 5,111 cruise missiles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines. A January 2026 report from CSIS estimated that Ukraine likely suffered between 500,000 and 600,000 casualties from February 2022 to December 2025, with 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action. Ukrainian officials rarely disclose casualty figures, but President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Feb. 4 that at least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in action, with many more missing.
