UK believes Iran played role in RAF Fairford incident

The five men, all in their 20s and from London, were arrested near the airbase after police were alerted to "three suspicious vehicles." They were initially arrested on explosives charges and later for preparing acts of terrorism. However, all five were released on police bail on Monday after an examination of the vans and searches of addresses linked to them. Police said a quantity of petrol but no explosive devices were found during searches of the vans.

US President Donald Trump expressed surprise at the decision to release the men, stating he would not have granted them bail. Burnham clarified that the release was under "the strictest possible bail conditions" and that UK officials had been explaining the process to their US counterparts. He expressed "complete confidence" in the handling of the situation by British security services. It also emerged that one of the arrested men had called the police to report the incident. UK officials, however, indicated that security services were aware in advance.

The Iranian embassy in London has said it "categorically rejects and strongly condemns" any "unfounded and malicious speculations" linking Iran to the incident.
