Three people died and at least eight others were injured after a massive fire erupted in a multi-storey residential building in Delhi's Tughlakabad area early Friday. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) reported that six individuals were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital with the assistance of the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS).
The fire broke out in a building located in Gali No. 1 near Naya Tara Apartment on Madhyam Marg. According to fire officials, the building had a ground floor and five upper floors and was situated in a narrow lane, which posed challenges for firefighting and rescue operations.
Multiple emergency calls were received by the fire department between 2:35 am and 2:37 am regarding the blaze and people trapped inside. Firefighters deployed three water tenders, two water bowsers, a breathing support unit, and a Quick Response Vehicle. An additional unit was sent later due to further calls.
Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have originated in vehicles parked inside the building. Firefighters launched rescue efforts after receiving reports of trapped residents. The fire was brought under control by 3:45 am and firefighting operations concluded by 4 am. Rescue operations continued even after the fire was extinguished, with one more occupant rescued during the final phase.
