The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the appointment of Rudra Gaurav Shresth, a senior Indian Foreign Service officer, as India's next Ambassador to the Republic of Turkiye. Shresth, who belongs to the 1999 IFS batch, is currently serving as India's Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran and is expected to commence his new assignment in Ankara shortly.
According to the MEA, Shresth is a career diplomat who assumed his role in Tehran in May 2023. His previous diplomatic postings include service in India's missions in France, Mauritius, Afghanistan, Singapore, and Bhutan. He also served as India's High Commissioner to Mozambique from 2016 to 2019. Within the MEA in New Delhi, Shresth has managed personnel and policy planning and directed the Foreign Secretary's office. Prior to his Iran posting, he was on deputation to the Prime Minister's Office for three years.
This appointment follows the 12th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FoC) held between India and Turkiye in New Delhi on April 8. During these consultations, both nations reviewed their bilateral relations, focusing on trade, investment, tourism, technology, energy, education, cultural exchanges, and combating cross-border terrorism. They also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest. The next round of consultations is scheduled to take place in Turkiye at a mutually convenient date.
