Starbucks announced it is closing approximately 250 coffeehouses across North America, representing less than 1% of its regional locations. The closures are part of the company's "Back to Starbucks" strategy aimed at improving customer and employee experience and financial performance.

The store closures signal Starbucks' efforts to address underperforming locations and improve overall customer and employee experience as part of a broader turnaround strategy, potentially impacting regional employment and consumer access to the coffee chain.
Starbucks announced it will close approximately 250 coffeehouses across the US and Canada as part of its "Back to Starbucks" turnaround strategy. The closures represent just under 1% of the company's more than 18,000 locations in North America.
In a memo to employees, chief operating officer Mike Grams stated that the company identified stores where it could not consistently provide its desired customer and employee experience or see a path to acceptable financial performance. Starbucks said affected employees would be offered transfers where possible, and those who could not be placed elsewhere would receive severance.
These closures follow a 2025 restructuring that resulted in the net closure of 107 North American locations. Business Insider mapped 239 store closures after starting with a list compiled by an independent tracker named "Winter" and verifying each location. The publication was unable to independently verify an additional 11 closures from Winter's list.
