Howden Group, an insurance broker, has appointed Stephen Darroch as its new chairman, a move that signals potential preparations for an initial public offering (IPO). The company operates in 55 countries and employs over 22,000 people globally, with ambitions to grow its workforce to 40,000.
In a separate development, Kirk Southern has been permanently appointed as the group chief people officer. Southern, who had served in an interim capacity for six months, will lead the broker's people team. His priorities include creating a people function to support the group's growth, enhancing employee experience through improved systems and processes, and attracting and retaining talent. Southern previously held senior HR roles at Arrow Global Group and has over 15 years of experience in investment banking, fund management, and asset management.
David Shalders, group chief operating officer at Howden, stated that Southern's promotion reflects his achievements and that he and his team will be integral to the company's future success as it pursues its growth ambitions. Shalders also noted that Howden has recently strengthened its people leadership team with other new hires.
