The Sonos Arc Ultra is presented as a premium, all-in-one Dolby Atmos soundbar that delivers an immersive home theater experience. Released in late 2024, it builds upon the foundation of the original Sonos Arc from 2020, offering significant upgrades in audio performance.
A key innovation is the Sound Motion technology, which integrates a large, four-motor woofer into a compact space on the right side of the soundbar. This design allows for beefier bass without increasing the overall size of the unit. The reworked driver array, now totaling 14 drivers compared to the original Arc's 11, includes additional tweeters and fewer midrange woofers. This configuration enhances bass depth, improves clarity, widens the soundstage, and provides greater presence.
The Arc Ultra supports 9.1.4-channel playback and Dolby Atmos spatial audio, capable of directing sound from multiple angles, including overhead, to create an enveloping audio environment. Testing with content like "Top Gun: Maverick" demonstrated the soundbar's ability to simulate a wide range of sound effects and orchestral music convincingly from a single device. However, the review notes that the soundbar does not perfectly simulate sounds coming from directly behind the listener.
Despite its $1,099 price tag, the Sonos Arc Ultra is considered a near-perfect solution for users seeking a high-quality, space-saving home theater system, holding its own against other top soundbars on the market.
